The Nordegg & Abraham Lake area boasts a variety of hiking trails suitable for all skill levels. Popular hikes include:

Easy

  • Siffleur Falls: A gentle trail with a big reward—Siffleur Falls is an easy hike that takes you through wide open meadows, over Alberta's longest pedestrian suspension bridge, and into a canyon where the first waterfall comes into view. Want more adventure? Continue on to see two additional waterfalls further up the trail.

  • Crescent Falls: This short hike offers breathtaking views of the powerful twin falls plunging into a deep canyon.

  • Whitegoat Falls: A lesser-known gem, Whitegoat Falls is a short and serene trail that winds through forest to a picturesque waterfall tucked into the rocks. A great family option perfect for a half day outing!

Moderate

  • Allstones Creek: Perfect on a hot summer day, this short off trail hike involves winding your way up a creek to a waterfall. Bring your water shoes!

  • Coral Creek Canyon: This half day hike takes you along the edge of a limestone canyon carved by time and water. Expect sweeping mountain views, interesting rock formations, and a moderate climb that feels both adventurous and accessible.

  • Hoodoo Creek: Follow the creek bed and marvel at the unique hoodoo formations along the way. With a steady incline and lots to explore, this half day hike is full of photo-worthy moments.

Hard

  • Coliseum Mountain: A challenging climb with panoramic payoffs, Coliseum Mountain is a local favorite. The trail winds up through forest and open ridges, leading to a summit that offers 360-degree views over the surrounding valleys and peaks.

  • Allstones Lake: This steep ascent isn’t for the faint of heart, but it’s worth every step. Climb through forested slopes to reach Allstones Lake, a crystal-clear subalpine lake nestled high in the mountains. For those who want a bit more of a challenge, the climb up the ridge above the lake is a great intro to scrambling.

  • Vision Quest: As intense as its name suggests, Vision Quest is a demanding hike with steep elevation gain and exposed ridgelines. But at the top, you’re rewarded with jaw-dropping views of Abraham Lake and the surrounding ranges.

  • Tuff Puff: Tuff Puff is a leg-burner that rewards hikers with epic views over the Kootenay Plains and the surrounding mountains. One of our favourite wildflower ridge hikes in early summer.
