Abraham Lake Ice Report - January 5, 2025

Abraham Lake has been completely frozen for a couple of days now and the ice is getting thicker, with an average of 17-19 cm at all major spots. There is a thick layer of frost on most of the lake surface, with some clear patches at Hoodoo Creek and the Ice Bubbles Parking Lot. We have wind in the forecast this week which should help clear and polish the ice. We are in the early stages of the full freeze up, so watch for areas of thin ice. Be careful navigating sections of fractured ice along steep sections of shoreline. As much as possible try to find the lowest angled ice to get down onto the lake.

The Ice Bubbles Parking Lot is the best location right now to view the bubbles as the wind has already cleared some patches of ice. Hoodoo has a few good sections as well.

Preacher's Point still has the thickest ice but with the water level dropping bubble viewing conditions are becoming more challenging. Watch for areas of weak/fractured ice and open water.

Lots of different ice features right now across the lake.
