Abraham Lake is putting on a truly dramatic show during this intense cold snap, with ice fog, blowing snow and extreme windchill.

Ice thickness is 20+ cm and the lake is about 50-70% snow-covered, which makes for some really cool windswept windows into the ice and snow designs. Great patches of bubbles to be found at all major bubble viewing spots.

As the reservoir’s water level continues to drop, accessing the ice is becoming steeper. Be sure to bring proper ice traction devices and look for lower-angled entry points to safely reach the lake’s surface.

Great bubble patches, snow drifts and extreme cold conditions at Abraham Lake.

Bubble viewing quality has held up after this week's Chinook. As the season progresses and the ice experiences more weather events the bubbles continue to develop unique character.

Ice thickness is 20+ cm across the lake and there are great patches of bubbles to be found at all major bubble viewing spots. You will find good skating away from shore.

As the reservoir water level continues to drop, the shoreline gets steeper and you will find more and more fractured ice. Try to find lower-angled sections to access the lake. Ice traction devices are highly recommended.

Preacher's Point is in late season conditions, with some cool ice features and bubbles to be found if you look around. Watch for weak, fractured ice and areas of open water.

We are expecting snow tomorrow and a major drop in temperatures. If you are coming out this weekend, stay warm and bring a broom!

Great bubble patches at all major viewing locations.

Just a quick one this morning to say the wind has worked its magic and the lake is mostly snow-free again. Ice thickness is 20+ cm and there are great patches of bubbles to be found at all major bubble viewing spots. Pretty good skating as well as you get away from shore.

Preacher's Point is in late season conditions, with some cool ice features and great bubbles to be found if you look around. Watch for weak, fractured ice and areas of open water there as the water level drops.

As always, be cautious navigating steep shorelines with fractured ice. Lower-angled sections are safer for accessing the lake and we highly recommend using traction devices.

We have a Chinook blowing in this week so are expecting some changes in the ice conditions. Stay tuned!

Lots of great patches of bubbles to be found! Pictures are from morning of January 25, the lake cleared up even more throughout the day.
