Preacher's Point remains the only section of Abraham Lake that is frozen with over 20 cm of ice. As the water level drops, getting down and back up the steep banks is getting trickier every day - try to find the lowest angled ice and use traction devices. The ice is now either sitting on land or in the river channel, and areas of weak ice and open water are growing. Despite these challenging conditions there are some amazing patches of ice bubbles to be found if you know how to assess ice and are willing to explore a bit.

We are expecting some colder weather in the coming days, but only time will tell if it is enough for the rest of the lake to freeze.

Some great patches of bubbles to be found around Preacher's Point.

Watch for areas of open water.

Watch for sections of weak ice and open water. The clarity of the ice was somewhat impacted by the rain the area received a couple of days ago, but the wind has been polishing it nicely and we had some great clear patches of ice bubbles again today.

The thin layer of ice that had started to form at Cline Landing is all but gone thanks to the strong Chinook winds and warm temperatures we have been experiencing in the last few days. With this week's mild weather we are not expecting much change.

Lots of great bubbles to be found around Preacher's Point.

Watch for areas with open water.

A slight dusting of snow covers the ice at Preacher's Point. Once the wind starts blowing, combined with the cold air, the ice should polish up nice. The bubbles are great underneath so bring a broom and enjoy the unique feel of the area.

Preacher's Point remains the only section of Abraham Lake that is frozen with over 20 cm of ice. Watch for sections of weak ice and open water as there is moving water underneath. A thin layer of ice is starting to form in bays such as Cline Landing but we will need a stretch of sustained cold temperatures for the ice to thicken.
